Pump and Valve Repair/Overhaul

Pumps and valves are the life blood of any food and beverage manufacturing facility. The movement of product, steam, cleaning chemicals and support liquids cannot encounter each other, or it could be a cross contamination or a sanitary issue. Therefore, actuated valves and pumps should operate crisp and with no lag, leaks, bad bearings and seals. Pumps that fail during the process could threaten the entire production order. We can test and do proper maintenance on pumps and valves to insure efficient and safe operation.

Condition Monitoring (Vibration Analysis)

Condition monitoring is a type of predictive maintenance that measures the vibration, temperature, and acceleration of rotating equipment. Our condition monitoring equipment will inform us by way of blue tooth to electronic tablet, graphing the condition of the rotating equipment. Knowing the real time condition of the equipment allows the customer to focus their maintenance PM’s at their operational convenience, not after a failure.

Heat Exchanger Testing and Repair

In a perfect world, plate and frame heat exchangers should never be disassembled. But we know the world is not perfect and sometimes they have to be repaired. The two main failures of heat exchangers are leaking, and plate fouling. There are two types of leaks, internal and external. External leaks can be seen and easily diagnosed but internal leakage means that the product and heating or cooling medium are mixing causing cross contamination. This type of leak is not visible, and months could go by with no knowledge of the leak.

With our heat exchanger testing and service equipment, we can backflush the exchanger to help with plate fouling and test for any cross contamination. If the exchanger must be disassembled, we have the expertise to repair it as well. Periodic cross contamination testing is advised and thought highly of by auditors.

Preventative Maintenance Programs and Services

Preventative maintenance is a major part of a commercial facility. The old saying “you can pay me now or pay me later” was a brilliant marketing campaign for an automotive filter manufacturer years ago. Not only was it good, but it is very true. The message is, would you rather spend a few bucks a couple times a year or after a few years of no maintenance, purchase a whole new motor which can cost thousands.

At Progressive Maintenance Solutions, we can review existing preventive maintenance programs and advise on how to make it better and more efficient. We can also develop a new program and execute the work if needed. Preventative maintenance is not something that should be dismissed. It’s a guarantee, that without a pm program, machinery will fail at the worst moment - when needed the most.

Project Management and Consultations

After being involved with, and managing many capital projects, we know the requirements to be successful on a project. There must be a charter which explains the scope of work, safety concerns, deliverables, and a budget, before any work is done.

When the job starts, all communications and sub-contractors should be lined up and ready to go. We have an extensive list of trusted electrical, piping and engineering companies that we use for bigger projects that aren’t just mechanical in scope. We can assist with any aspect of the project, from starting the charter to commissioning, or conduct the whole project in a safe and professional manner.

System Monitoring and Troubleshooting

Some processing and packaging systems can be large and complex containing many pumps, valves, heat exchangers, electronic actuators, cylinders, and electric motors. We have extensive experience working with operations to track down a problem that may not be shutting the system down, but not acting in a manner that is consistent with the system's history. A sticking check valve, a pump that is cavitating, or an actuator that has internal air leak and actuates slowly, can wreak havoc on the efficiency of a processing system. In industrial systems, the operations have to happen in a timely manner and in sequence. When that time or sequence is disturbed, the system cannot run efficiently and could jeopardize the product. We have a reputation of working well with the customer by having open lines of communication and collaboration to help solve the issue.
